Successful Annual General Meeting!

MCA held it’s Annual General Meeting on November 14th at the Keith Brown Community Building with many of the board members and approximately 45 residents in attendance. Board Secretary, Gabrielle Dorr, opened the meeting by welcoming everyone and introducing MCA board members to the community. The floor was then given to long-time resident and board member, Keith Brown, who made an announcement about the community skating rink opening this winter when conditions are favourable. Brown also announced his generous donation of a horse-drawn sleigh ride for residents during our Winter Festival being held on Feb. 2, 2025. Following the announcement, MCA’s President, Lorrie Marlow, presented MCA highlights from the President’s report for 2023 and 2024.

Amanda Palmer then walked participants through a community participatory exercise to seek input on the following question: “What is one thing MCA could work on next year that would make the neighbourhood even better?” Many residents shared their ideas with MCA which we made note of to discuss throughout the next year. Palmer also set up poster stations in the building where residents could comment on what they loved about Mechanicsville, how long they have lived in Mechanicsville, and what residents would like to see at our 2025 Winter Festival and Mechanicsville Day events.

Finally, to end the evening, Dave Allston, a local historian and resident of Mechanicsville gave the audience a fascinating look into the history of Lazy Bay Commons and how the neighbourhood of Mechanicsville almost disappeared. It was truly an exciting evening with something for everyone to enjoy!
